Chatbox 1.24: Chat Folders, AI Browser Control, and Mobile Work Mode
1.24 brings three main changes: the chat list can be sorted into project folders, the AI in Work Mode can use a browser, and Work Mode is now on phones. Tool calls also take up less room, and Settings has been reorganized.
Project folders: organize your chats
You can now create project folders in the chat list, keep related conversations together, and collapse a folder when you don’t need it.
Chats end up in a project in three ways:
- By hand: right-click a chat (long-press on touch) and choose Move to project. Pinned chats stay where they are.
- Work Mode: Work Mode chats are filed under the project for their working directory, and move if the directory changes.
- Copilots: chats with the same copilot are grouped together.
Where you put a chat by hand wins over automatic grouping. From a project’s menu you can start a new chat in it, rename it or delete it; deleting a project only removes the folder, and its chats go back to the list. On desktop, a project can be linked to a local folder. Projects are included in backups.
ChatboxAI browser control
Work Mode on desktop now has a built-in browser. The AI opens real pages and can click, type and scroll. Sites that often block plain page fetching, need a sign-in or load content with scripts, such as social and shopping sites, now work too.
Pages open as tabs in the side panel next to the chat, so you can see what the AI is looking at and take over whenever you like. Besides reading pages, it can take screenshots, hand local files to a page’s upload control and save downloads to the working directory; uploading files from outside the working directory needs your OK, unless you’re on Full Access. Any page can be opened in your regular browser, and browsing data can be cleared in one click.
Three of four regions beat target; West is the only miss. Northpeak’s Team plan is the closest price comparison.
Work Mode: a more compact tool history
Consecutive tool calls now collapse into one line, such as “Ran 3 file searches”, which you can expand to see each step. Steps that are running or waiting for your approval are shown on their own.
Let me look at the project layout first.

Settings categories and search
Settings are now grouped into Account, Models, Capabilities, Chat and App. You can search them (Ctrl+F, or Cmd+F on macOS), and picking a result jumps to that setting and highlights it.
The Default Models page has been reorganized, with new slots for document parsing, web search and image generation, and each one can be checked or connection-tested on its own. The separate helper-model settings are merged into one Fast model, used for small jobs like naming conversations.
Work Mode on mobile
Work Mode is now on iOS and Android. The app includes a JavaScript runtime based on QuickJS, so code runs in a sandbox on the phone itself, and each conversation gets its own workspace.
It can read the PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files you attach, and turn the results into a report, spreadsheet, slides or web page that you download. Older .doc, .xls and .ppt files, or files that can’t be parsed on the phone, are uploaded to Chatbox AI for parsing after you confirm; this needs a license and uses points. Remote MCP servers work on phones too. On iPhone you can also turn on access to Photos, Calendar, Reminders and Health; Chatbox asks first and tells you which model provider will receive the data.
Installing Skills and using knowledge bases are desktop-only for now.
Done — four regions sorted by revenue; West is below target.
Try it when stable 1.24 arrives
Update once stable Chatbox 1.24 is out; all platforms will get it at about the same time. Project folders and the new Settings are on every platform (linking a local folder is desktop-only). The built-in browser is desktop-only (Windows / macOS / Linux). Work Mode is available on desktop, iOS and Android.
Also in 1.24: reference images for image generation in chat, the OpenRouter image API and custom OpenAI-compatible image models, and up to 20 images per message; choose which conversations to back up, with very large conversations exported and restored reliably; automatic retries with a countdown when a provider is briefly unavailable, and partial replies kept when a response fails; a per-code-block Auto wrap toggle; Alibaba Cloud DashScope rerank models for knowledge bases; and your reading position kept when you send, with other reply branches kept when you delete a message.
